Digging Deep

The other day I was doing bike intervals at the gym, which involved 10 minutes at 85% max heart rate followed by 2 min recovery. Now, when biking that hard, those 10 minutes feel like they are slooowly ticking by and you're constantly battling to keep your feet moving, your cadence up and your heart rate up. Then this song came on on my ipod:

it's pretty much the greatest moticational song EVER! When that song came on i had no trouble keeping my feet moving. I just kept picturing myself cruising up ritchers pass.
I mean what better describes the Ironman as the following lyrics:

This is 10% luck,
20% skill,
15% concentrated power of will,
5% pleasure,
50% pain,
And 100% reason to remember the name
On the training front, the training schedule that we have been following has been just too demanding. Twice a day workouts every day, we felt like we were always playing catch up and missing workouts. According to the schedule only one of the workouts was critical and the other one was more of a short light aerobic ride. So this week I have only been doing the critical, longer and harder workouts after work and happily sleeping past 5am. I'm hoping this leaves me with enough energy for the crazy brick workouts this weekend, instead of running out of steam by thursday.

Ben has been sick again this week, so he is taking the week off. He has been sick on and off since he got the flu in February. Every time he starts feeling a little better the tries to make up ALL the workouts he missed, which probably makes him sick again. So, under doctors orders no training this week and hopefully he can get back at it this weekend.

This weekend, we were planning on going to penticton to camp and train. My afternoon off this week is friday afternoon, so we thought we'd take advantage of being so close to the race course. Instead of Penticton we've decided to drive the extra 45 minutes to Osoyoos. Osoyoos is going to have 15 degree and sunny weather, I can't wait! It's also on the race course as well, but closer to ritchers pass, so hopefully we'll hit that up a few times and see where the weekend takes us. Our bikes are in the shop right now getting all tuned up and they should be ready to hit the road!
